The Middle-earth of the Second Age is very different from the one seen in The Lord of the ringsa truth that episode 3 made very clear.
Númenor is a key location in the Second Age of Middle-earth, one of the greatest civilizations in the history of Middle-earth. As Galadriel rightly observed, the rise of Morgoth divided the race of men, some choosing to side with the Dark Lord, others against him.
In Rings of Power episode 3, Galadriel is brought to the Hall of Law, which she discovers was set up by Elros. Then, who is Elros?
WHO IS ELROS?
Elros is the brother of Elrond. The brothers were born in the later years of the First Age of Earendil and Elwing and were both half-elves, sharing elven and human blood. When they were still young, Elros and Elrond were taken prisoner by Malgor and Maedhros, two of Fëanor’s sons. They were raised by Malgor in a cave until his captor took pity on them and freed them.
Following Morgoth’s defeat, which marked the beginning of the Second Age, the divine beings known as the Valar gave Elros and Elrond the choice of which race they would belong to. Elros he chose to belong to humanity, thus giving up his immortal life, while Elrond remained an elf. To learn more about the Valar, click here.
As a reward for helping the elves defeat Morgoth, the group of men to which Elryou received your own island kingdom, Númenor, which was raised from the sea by the Valar and of which Elros was crowned first king. By the time of The Rings of Power, Elros has long been dead.
He died several centuries before the events of the series, in the year 442 of the Second Age, having ruled Númenor for 410 years. He was born in the year 532 of the First Age, which means that Elros He died at the age of 500 years. To find out who Waldreg is, read this.
Although Elros had a mortal life after favoring his human side, his life and that of his descendants was much greater than that of most Men.
This not yet mentioned in the series, but Elendil, Isildur, and later Aragorn are all descendants of Elros and they also have exceptionally long lives, Elendil lived up to 322 years, Isildur up to 234 years, and Aragorn up to 210 years.
